The New Jersey Turnpike and Interstate 280 both pass directly through the city, making Newark a common pass through point for traffic moving between New York City and points south or west. Newark Penn Station, downtown, serves as a major regional rail hub, with NJ Transit, Amtrak, and the PATH train all converging there, making it possible to reach Manhattan in about 25 minutes without a car. NJ Transit also operates the Newark Light Rail, connecting downtown to Branch Brook Park and other neighborhoods, along with an extensive local bus network radiating out from Penn Station. Given its dense rail connections, Newark is one of the more transit accessible cities on this list, though a car still helps for reaching neighborhoods further from the downtown core or the airport area.
