Chandler Transit – Chandler sits in the southeast corner of the Phoenix metro area, laid out in a fairly consistent grid of mile spaced arterial roads typical of the surrounding Valley suburbs. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport lies about 15 miles northwest of downtown Chandler, generally a 20 to 25 minute drive via Interstate 10 and Loop 202, while Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport sits closer, roughly 10 miles east, and handles a smaller mix of commercial and charter flights. Loop 202, known locally as the Santan Freeway, runs along the northern and eastern edges of the city, providing quick access to Mesa, Gilbert, and the rest of the Valley freeway system. Arizona Avenue and Alma School Road serve as two of the main north to south corridors running through the center of the city, connecting downtown Chandler to the surrounding business and retail districts. Valley Metro operates the regional bus network serving Chandler, though the city currently has no light rail of its own, with the nearest rail connections available a few miles north in Mesa or Tempe. Downtown Chandler is walkable in its historic core, but as with most of the East Valley, a car remains the most practical way to reach the surrounding neighborhoods, tech corridor employers, and shopping centers spread across the city.
