Glendale Transit – Glendale sits in the northwest part of the Phoenix metro area, laid out along the same mile spaced arterial grid common across the Valley, with major cross streets like Bell Road and Camelback Road providing easy reference points for navigation. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport lies about 15 miles southeast of downtown Glendale, generally a 20 to 25 minute drive via Interstate 10 and Loop 202. Loop 101, known locally as the Agua Fria Freeway through this stretch, runs along the eastern edge of the city and provides the main route to the Westgate Entertainment District and State Farm Stadium, an area that sees significant traffic congestion on event days. Interstate 17 forms the eastern boundary of the greater Glendale area a few miles further in, connecting north toward Flagstaff and south into central Phoenix. Valley Metro operates the regional bus network serving Glendale, though the city has no light rail of its own, with the nearest rail line running through neighboring Phoenix several miles to the east. Historic Downtown Glendale and the Westgate district both offer walkable pockets, but the broader, low density layout of the city means a car is the most practical way to reach most neighborhoods and shopping areas.
