Greensboro Transit – Greensboro sits roughly at the midpoint of the Piedmont Triad, and its highway network reflects that in between position, built as much for through traffic connecting Winston-Salem and High Point as for getting around the city itself. Piedmont Triad International Airport lies about 10 miles west of downtown, typically a 15 to 20 minute drive via Interstate 40 or Bryan Boulevard. Interstate 40 runs east to west across the southern part of the city, while Interstate 85 merges with it through downtown before splitting off toward Durham to the east, making the shared stretch through the city center one of the busier corridors in the region. The Greensboro Urban Loop, still under construction in sections, is gradually forming a beltway around the outer edges of the city to help route traffic around downtown rather than through it. Greensboro Transit Authority operates the local bus network, with the downtown depot serving as the main transfer point for routes reaching most neighborhoods. Downtown Greensboro, including the area around Center City Park, has grown more walkable in recent years, but a car remains the most practical way to reach the surrounding suburbs and the other cities that make up the Triad.
