Lexington Highlights – Surrounded by the rolling bluegrass pastures that give the region its name, Lexington keeps much of that horse country character even close to its urban core, a contrast our street map shows in fine detail. Downtown centers on a revitalized stretch of restaurants and offices near Rupp Arena, with the University of Kentucky campus spreading out just to its southwest. Chevy Chase, one of the city’s older established neighborhoods, offers a walkable commercial strip lined with local boutiques and a mix of well kept early century homes. The Hamburg area, on the city’s eastern side, has grown into a sprawling retail and entertainment corridor built partly on land that was once a working horse farm. Ashland Park, just south of downtown, holds onto grand historic homes along wide, shaded boulevards named for the horse farm that once occupied the land. Beyond the city limits, the surrounding countryside remains dotted with the working horse farms and white plank fences that define the area’s identity.
