Plano Transit – Plano sits north of Dallas within a well planned street grid, laid out with wide arterial roads spaced roughly a mile apart, a pattern common across much of the northern Dallas suburbs. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport lies about 20 miles southwest, generally a 30 to 35 minute drive via the Sam Rayburn Tollway or the Dallas North Tollway, while Dallas Love Field sits closer to downtown Dallas, roughly 25 miles south. U.S. Route 75, known locally as Central Expressway, runs through the middle of the city and serves as the main route connecting Plano to downtown Dallas to the south. The Dallas North Tollway skirts the western edge of the city, offering a faster, tolled alternative for reaching the surrounding suburbs and the Legacy business corridor. Dallas Area Rapid Transit, or DART, operates light rail service into Plano with several stations along the Red Line, making it possible to commute into downtown Dallas without driving. Plano’s local bus service is more limited, so while the light rail corridor and areas like Legacy West and Historic Downtown Plano are walkable, a car remains the most practical way to reach most parts of this spread out, suburban city.
