Scottsdale Transit – Scottsdale stretches roughly 30 miles from its southern border with Tempe up to the desert foothills near Carefree, so getting from one end of the city to the other takes considerably longer than the compact Old Town core might suggest. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport sits just southwest of the city, typically a 15 to 20 minute drive from Old Town Scottsdale via State Route 202 or Scottsdale Road, depending on traffic. Scottsdale Road runs the full north to south length of the city and serves as the main artery connecting Old Town to the resort corridor and the northern neighborhoods near Pinnacle Peak. The Loop 101 freeway skirts the city’s eastern edge, providing quick access to neighboring Tempe, Mesa, and the greater Phoenix metro area without cutting through central Scottsdale itself. Valley Metro operates the regional bus network serving the city, though Scottsdale has no light rail of its own, with the nearest rail connections available a few miles west in Tempe. Old Town Scottsdale is walkable and increasingly served by ride share and scooter options, but the low density, spread out nature of the city beyond that core makes a car the most practical way to reach the resorts, golf courses, and hiking trailheads scattered throughout.
